-She left her year-old son with Mom to attend a topnotch auctioneer's school in Iowa when she couldn't afford the $300 tuition.

-And the lady has the gift of gab. But that's what makes the lady an auctioneer. "I have auctioned eveything... dream dates, estates, business liquidation's.. "everything but tobacco and cattle," says 40-something Vikki Vines, still one of few women auctioneers in a "man's business," and arguably one of the top 10 in America, certainly the predominant woman auctioneer in Texas.

Owner of the top notch Vikki Vines Gallery Auctions in Houston, she regularly gathers buyers from neighboring states and as far as Washington state, too. Her noted annual once a year Architectural & Curiosities auction in early March is the most exciting auction event in Houston.
